Reclaimed parquet – getting past the builders

A bit of background on reclaimed parquet

I thought it was time to turn our attention towards what retrieved parquet really is. And the reason it's important to persevere if you would like a reclaimed flooring in your house. And how to not allow your builder make you feel as though you are mad for wanting to install it.

The parquet we recover stems from public buildings constructed from 1900s to 1970s. The reclaimed materials are of a fantastic quality and usually intriguing wood types. Some of the wood types are extremely rare. Since the tree has already been cut down, it is almost a criminal act to squander the wood. So we applaud clients who need reclaimed parquet, not only for budgetary reasons but also for principled motives too.

The common problem

The difficulty we find however is that lots of clients who instinctively need to reclaimed are frequently frustrated by their general builder. We hear it repeatedly:

The client says:"I'd like a reclaimed parquet floor, I have always wanted one" and the builder says,"Oh it will never work, reclaimed substances are moist, they will warp, you will need to purchase 25% extra because there will be so much that you can't use, I have stripped out better stuff and set it in a jump" etc. etc. etc!

But if the customer claims, the builder will often agree to match it after using rubbished it!

Don't panic

Then we get telephone calls whereby, on arrival of the pallet, the builder refuses to do exactly what he promised. This despite having seen the sample.

Because:" It is has bitumen on it which needs to come off and also the quotation did not include for cleaning" Or"It's all different block, and he's put better stuff in a skip" etc.. !

None of that incidentally is true. You can lay parquet with bitumen on, you merely require compatible glue. We make it very clear that for a fantastic fit, the tongues do need cleanup. Our parquet is from 1 source. This ensures that an entire floor for your client. And yes, the parquet would definitely have gone into numerous skips if we had not reclaimed it -- but that does not make it a bad material!

Hardwood Floor Sun Damage You have invested a great deal on your hardwood flooring . However, when your floors are over-exposed to sun, they could fade, become stained and sew with time. To start off, the radiation management plays a role, of course. But gaps in humidity can issue, too -- moist wood responds differently to the sun's radiation compared to wood does.
